AB de Villiers expressed disappointment over the absence of a third Test in the India-South Africa series, attributing this shortfall to the prevalence and influence of T20 leagues worldwide. He expressed concerns about the diminishing space for extended Test series due to the prominence of T20 cricket.
South Africa claimed victory in the opening Test in Centurion, followed by India's win in the second Test at Cape Town, which concluded in just four and a half sessions, making it the shortest Test match.
De Villiers shared his discontent on his YouTube channel, pointing fingers at the impact of T20 cricket globally, signaling that something seems amiss in cricket administration. He emphasized the need for a more extensive and competitive Test calendar to determine the best Test team globally.
Regarding the pitch at Cape Town's Newlands Cricket Ground, although there were concerns about its nature, De Villiers deemed it standard, mentioning that batsmen could adjust after the initial challenging period on day one.
Highlighting the clash between South Africa's Test tour of New Zealand and the SA20 franchise league, De Villiers criticized the prioritization of the T20 league over the Test series, especially with key players staying for the franchise league, including seven uncapped players in the Test squad for New Zealand.
He expressed his belief that Test cricket is facing challenges due to the prominence of T20s, suggesting that players, coaches, and boards are inclined towards formats with greater financial prospects like T20s, influencing decisions regarding players' participation in different formats.
