India Clinches Seven-Wicket Victory Over South Africa in 2nd Test, Series Ends in 1-1 Draw

Despite South Africa starting Day Two still trailing by 36 runs, Aiden Markram's remarkable century of 106 off 103 balls provided them with a lead.

India's victory against South Africa at Newlands Cricket Ground was a swift affair, culminating in a seven-wicket win within just two days of play. Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional six-wicket haul was instrumental in setting the stage for India's triumph, ending the series in a 1-1 draw.

Despite South Africa starting Day Two still trailing by 36 runs, Aiden Markram's remarkable century of 106 off 103 balls provided them with a lead. However, Bumrah's consistent strikes limited South Africa's innings to 176, with him finishing with figures of 6-61, dismissing the hosts at the brink of lunch.

With a target of 79 runs to win, India wasted no time, reaching the required total in just 12 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal's aggressive 28 off 23 balls set the pace, while contributions from Shubman Gill, captain Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer secured India's victory. This win not only leveled the series but also earned India 12 crucial World Test Championship points after their loss in the first Test at Centurion.

Remarkably, this Test match, decided in four and a half sessions across 624 balls (107 overs), is now the shortest-ever completed game in the history of Test cricket. India's triumph also marks them as the first Asian team to win a Test match at Cape Town.
