Indian batting legend Virat Kohli marked another historical milestone in his career after he achieved 27,000 runs across all formats of international cricket on November 30. He thereby joined an elite group of four players in history to have achieved this milestone.
The milestone came on the penultimate day of the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to X on this achievement, saying, "Another towering milestone in the illustrious career of Virat Kohli as he crosses 27,000 international runs! Your passion, consistency, and hunger to excel is a source of inspiration for the cricketing world. Congratulations, @imVkohli, the journey inspires millions.
However, it has been the fact that has added more glory to what he has achieved. That is because Kohli broke the record of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who garnered 27,000 runs in 623 innings. He achieved this milestone in just 594 innings. And as a result, Kohli stands alone since no one else has reached 27,000 international runs in fewer than 600 innings.
Third and Fourth to reach 27,000 runs; Sri Lanka former captain Kumar Sangakkara, it took him 648 innings; Australian World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting who took it in 650 innings.
All-time statistics: At the top of the record for the most international runs is the 'God of Cricket,' Sachin Tendulkar, with 34,357. Kohli follows him in the list with now 27,012 international runs, which is boosted by his outstanding 47 runs off just 35 balls against Bangladesh at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium. So far, Kohli has featured in 594 innings in international cricket.
Before he played his 594th innings, Kohli had scored runs to the total of 8,871 runs in Test matches in 114 games with an average of 48.74. In One Day Internationals, he has scored 13,906 runs in 295 matches with an average of 58.18. In addition, Kohli has scored 4,188 runs in 125 T20Is with an average of 48.69.
