Haryana Congress MLA Vinesh Phogat asserted that their voices are suppressed as they raise it, which was her first-hand experience.
PHOGAT, joined by Alka Lamba, all India Mahila Congress chief, on Monday held a press conference at Varanasi's Lakshmi Bai Hostel in support of Roshni Jaiswal and her family. The youth congress leader was accused of beating up the social media user, who she claimed had been issuing threats to rape her.
A video, during the press conference, is shown where Jaiswal says she slapped Rajesh Kumar in September as response to rape threats against her.
She further says in the video that after this incident, there was notice for attachment of her house.
We are women who are willing to fight. The fault seems to be in our persistence. So far, no one from the BJP or UP government has responded. My hope from the BJP government is limited, but women like Sakshi Malik and I continue to fight because we know firsthand how voices are suppressed.".
She emphasized that safety for the women is the top-most priority, "50% of our population is females, and our rights and safety matter. PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah may forget this, but I will fight till the last breath.".
Phogat also spoke on more threats that were issued to Jaiswal according to reports. She stated, "Why did not those in saffron raise their voices when we were fighting for women's safety and rights against Brij Bhushan? In fact, she has faced such threats before. She says she had fought for a BJP booth president's daughter who was being harassed at the hands of some goons. She feels that theBJP wants to "break the strength and voice of women who want to fight back.".
Lamba criticized the Centre's 'Beti Bachao' programme as mere rhetoric. She asked the Prime Minister: "Did any woman get justice during your ten-year rule?.".
When asked about the crimes against women in Wayanad, she said that their focus was not limited to a particular state or party. "We want to raise the voices of every woman from each state, and our primary agenda is to ensure the safety and justice of these women. It is fortunate that Wayanad will be voting for their women MP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who will undoubtedly strengthen our mission," she added.
