Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, who has been grabbing attention with his stellar singing and acting prowess, was on Wednesday spotted meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which he was seen sharing some candid moments with the PM, who termed his journey from a "countryside lad to an icon around the world" as exemplary.
In a video shared by Diljit on X, the energetic entertainer is seen greeting PM Modi with a bouquet of flowers, with the Prime Minister welcoming him, saying "Sat Shri Akal Ji". The music of Diljit's superhit musical number "Born to Shine" in the background brings an added essence to the moment in the video.
X it, PM Modi also posted the pictures of the meeting with Punjabi superstar and wrote: "A great interaction with Diljit Dosanjh! He is indeed a multidimensional personality merging skills and tradition. He connected with music, culture and more…. On his part, Diljit also wrote: "A fantastic start to 2025! Very memorable meeting with PM @narendramodi Ji. Lots of things that we talked on, including our music of course!"
As the Prime Minister welcomed Diljit, he praised him saying: "When an Indian youth from the countryside gets fame in the world, it feels nice." Diljit folded his hands and acknowledged the words of appreciation by PM Modi.
PM Modi further said: "Your family has named you Diljit. and you just go on to win over the people."
To this, Diljit said, "I used to read that India is Great. and only when I traveled across the country, I realized why this country is great." His words made the Prime Minister smile and he said: "The vastness of India is indeed a strength. We are a vibrant society."
Diljit, in the video, can also be heard describing Yoga as a magic to which PM Modi says: "The one who has experienced Yoga is actually aware of its power."
The Punjabi superstar also recalled the moments when PM Modi paid an emotional tribute to river Ganga and drew a reference to the mother-son relationship, saying he felt overwhelmed by that.
He also sang a few lines in Punjabi, doing a soulful mention of Guru Nanak, for which the Prime Minister tapped the table while Diljit was singing.
Diljit Dosanjh, who enjoys a millions' fan following, also turns up as a polarising figure to certain sections of people owing to his support towards the farmers' protests.
At times, he had faced severe trolling for his personal views; some even went on questioning his integrity and loyalty towards India.
In such backdrops, Diljit's meeting with Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday assumes importance from a socio-political point of view. Those critical of him may now wonder how one who raises one's voice against debatable issues can appreciate the PM.
