In a significant development, Vishnu Deo Sai was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, marking a historic moment as he became the first tribal leader to assume this role since the state's establishment in 2001.
The swearing-in ceremony unfolded in Raipur, witnessing the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP's National President JP Nadda, and Chief Ministers from various BJP-governed states.
Aged 59, Sai's ascendancy to the position of Chief Minister took many by surprise, given that other seasoned BJP leaders, such as the three-time former CM Dr. Raman Singh, were widely considered frontrunners. Dr. Raman Singh, Chhattisgarh's most senior BJP figure, has now assumed the role of the Assembly's Speaker.
Having previously served as a Union Minister in the Modi Cabinet, Sai brings a wealth of experience in electoral politics and grassroots work. Despite lacking a prominent public profile, his selection underscores a departure from the anticipated choices for the top post.
Alongside Vishnu Deo Sai, the swearing-in ceremony also saw the induction of Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao as Deputy Chief Ministers of the state, adding further dimensions to the leadership structure in Chhattisgarh.
