TMC Expected to Garner Support from Umbrella Body of Civil Society Groups in Bengal for 2024 Lok Sabha Polls

The Trinamool Congress seems to have gained the backing of Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, a coalition of civil society groups led by activist Yogendra Yadav, against the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Kolkata.

The walls in central Kolkata are adorned with posters from the Bharat Jodo Abhiyan's West Bengal unit, rallying public support for the Trinamool Congress against the BJP. The posters highlight opposition to "communal politics," "spread of hatred," "suppression of democratic voice," and alleged "misuse of central agencies" by the Union Government and the BJP.

The umbrella body's office-bearers clarified their stance against the BJP at the national level, expressing support for the Trinamool Congress as the strongest opposition force against the BJP in West Bengal. They aim to raise public awareness through outreach programs, intending to continue their efforts even after the upcoming elections.

The West Bengal convener of the umbrella body emphasized that they are not taking an anti-Trinamool Congress stance, considering the national significance of these elections. They hope for a united front against the BJP, expressing optimism about a potential alliance between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.

However, the state BJP leadership downplayed the significance of this development, asserting their focus on the 2024 polls to establish a stable government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, stating that he is the rightful choice of the people.

This shift in alliances and the support lent by Bharat Jodo Abhiyan to the Trinamool Congress could influence the political landscape in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
