Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has promised Sikh community leaders that the state government will consider banning the release of Kangana Ranaut's upcoming film "Emergency," pending legal consultation, according to government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir on Thursday.
A delegation from the Telangana Sikh Society, led by former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, met Shabbir at the Secretariat and requested a ban on the film's screening. The 18-member delegation presented a representation expressing serious concerns about the film’s depiction of the Sikh community. They alleged that "Emergency" portrays Sikhs as terrorists and anti-nationals, which they find "offensive" and damaging to the community's reputation.
Shabbir urged the chief minister to consider banning the film in Telangana. During his meeting with Reddy, Shabbir relayed that the chief minister agreed to make a decision on the matter after consulting legal experts.
"Emergency" is a political action thriller directed and co-produced by Kangana Ranaut, based on a screenplay by Ritesh Shah and a story written by Ranaut. The film features Kangana as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, and others in significant roles. The music for the film is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, with the background score created by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara. The film is scheduled for release on September 6.
