Internal strife within Mamata Banerjee's party intensified over the weekend, with rebel leader Kunal Ghosh persisting in his criticism of Sudip Bandyopadhyay, the Trinamool Congress leader in the Lok Sabha. Adding weight to Ghosh's stance, another party legislator, Tapas Roy, also voiced support for the rebellion.
Following his decision to remove the party affiliation from his social media profile, Ghosh delivered a scathing critique of Bandyopadhyay via his official platform on Saturday. Ghosh urged authorities to investigate the financial transactions related to Bandyopadhyay's hospitalization at Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar, subsequent to his arrest by the CBI in January 2017 in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund case.
Ghosh's statement on the platform emphasized the necessity of scrutinizing the bank accounts and payments made on behalf of Bandyopadhyay during his custody period, particularly whether substantial amounts were transferred to him or the hospital. He threatened to approach the court if investigative agencies failed to address this matter, tagging the directors of the ED and CBI in his message.
Tapas Roy, a senior Trinamool Congress legislator, also took aim at Bandyopadhyay during interactions with the media on Saturday, alleging that the latter orchestrated the ED's raid on his residence regarding the municipalities' case. Echoing Ghosh's assertions, Roy suggested that Bandyopadhyay cultivated ties with the BJP to shield himself from repercussions in the Rose Valley scam.
Despite these mounting accusations, Bandyopadhyay has maintained silence and remained inaccessible to the media.
