Rajnath Singh Calls for Government and Opposition Cooperation for a Smooth Parliament Session

After the all-party meeting, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that maintaining order in Parliament is both the government's and opposition's responsibility. He informed that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has appealed to all political parties to allow Parliament to function properly, as interruptions and protests by the opposition members during the Prime Minister's speeches in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha last session were inconsistent with the parliamentary customs.

The government, while remaining firm on the previous address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appealed to the Opposition to support the smooth Parliament session for the Budget on Sunday, saying disruptions were in violation of parliamentary norm.

He said that when the Prime Minister speaks, it is necessary that the House and the country listen to him, and every Member of Parliament should get a chance to be heard.

Addressing a meeting attended by 55 leaders of 44 political parties, including BJP, he said, "Representations have been made from all sides.".

He assured the House that the government is "open to discussing all issues," adding that discussions in Parliament will follow the procedures agreed upon in the Business Advisory Committee meetings and will be conducted in consultation with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

He also announced that Economic Survey will be presented on July 22 and the Budget on July 23.

Rijiju hoped for an uneventful Budget session, saying, "The government is preparing a robust budget, and there is anticipation for it. First, there will be a discussion on the Budget, followed by the introduction of bills."

It was in the meeting that the Centre outlined its agenda and the bills to be discussed, amidst demands for special status for Bihar, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
