The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,' spearheaded by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, is set to re-enter West Bengal from Bihar on Wednesday. The first phase of the yatra in West Bengal concluded on Monday as it crossed over into Bihar from Islampur.
The re-entry into West Bengal will occur through Debipur, Ratua, located in the Malda district's northern part, around 11:15 am, according to party leaders. Following the flag handover, the yatra will resume from Ratua stadium, proceeding towards Sujapur, where Rahul Gandhi will address the public before a night halt. On February 1, the yatra will enter Murshidabad before exiting the state the next day.
Having covered 523 km across six West Bengal districts, including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Uttar Dinajpur, the yatra is slated to traverse Malda and Murshidabad during its second phase. The journey through North Bengal, historically a Congress stronghold, witnessed an enthusiastic reception, with Rahul Gandhi engaging with locals along the route.
Despite facing challenges reminiscent of those encountered in BJP-ruled states like Assam and Manipur, the Congress confronted obstacles in obtaining permissions for public meetings and lodging arrangements in Jalpaiguri, Malda, and Murshidabad districts of TMC-ruled Bengal, still an ally at the national level, according to party leaders.
The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,' commencing in Manipur on January 14, aims to cover 6,713 km in 67 days, passing through 110 districts in 15 states before concluding in Mumbai on March 20.
