On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani on his 97th birthday and said he is "one of India's most admired statesmen.
Wishing the BJP patriarch, Prime Minister posted on his X: "Best wishes to Shri L. K. Advani Ji on his birthday. This year is even more special because he was conferred Bharat Ratna for his outstanding service to our nation."
He, PM Modi said, highlighted his contributions to the nation and its polity as "Among India's most admired statesmen," who has "devoted himself to furthering India's development."
"Always held in respect for his intellect and rich insights. Am blessed to have received guidance from him for decades. Praying for his long and healthy life," he concluded.
A Former BJP President, he became India's Seventh Deputy Prime Minister in the period June 2002 to May 2004.
L.K. Advani is also a very important co-founder of the BJP, the Rightwing Hindu Nationalist group being the ideological parent of that party, besides being the member of RSS.
He is the longest-serving Minister of Home Affairs, in office from 1998 to 2004, and the longest-serving Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha. He has handled many portfolios of the Central Government over the years.
