After senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram was hospitalized in Ahmedabad, it has now emerged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda to ensure the former minister got the best possible medical care.
Chidambaram, a veteran politician and former Union Minister, fainted in the middle of a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting convened at the Sabarmati Ashram on Tuesday. Party members sprang into action, rushing him to a nearby hospital where he was immediately administered medical treatment.
He was admitted to Ahmedabad's Zydus Hospital, where Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel had visited him to inquire about his health. Patel had assured that all necessary steps were being undertaken to ensure the best possible medical care.
Details now confirm that Prime Minister Modi himself had requested Rushikesh Patel to visit the hospital.
Upon the Prime Minister's Office being briefed about Chidambaram's health, Modi immediately requested that Health Minister Nadda get involved and supervise his treatment with the veteran politician getting the absolute best.
Nadda then reached out to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel as well as Health Minister Rushikesh Patel. Both men expressed personal interest with Rushikesh Patel himself attending the hospital for a meet and greet with Chidambaram as well as assuring his full medical cover.
The tragedy occurred on Tuesday during a prayer ceremony at historic Sabarmati Ashram where Chidambaram was also present along with other Congress party leaders. Chidambaram suddenly collapsed following reports of heatstroke and fatigue due to skyrocketing temperatures.
Later the same evening, Chidambaram took to X and released a health bulletin stating that he had been ill with dehydration resulting from excessive heat, but now all his vital parameters were stabilized.
Having recovered from this sudden attack of illness, Chidambaram returned to politics and attended the All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting on Wednesday at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial.
The Congress party is meeting its 84th National Convention in Ahmedabad now — an important occasion for the party's return to Gujarat after 64 years. Party leaders will discuss their strategic vision in the two-day meeting and prepare for upcoming elections.
