Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day festival, starting on Saturday, September 7, marked as the fourth day of the Hindu lunisolar month, Bhadrapada. This is also called Vinayak Chaturthi, wherein Ganesha is celebrated as the 'God of New Beginnings' and the 'Remover of Obstacles.'
Thus, it appears extremely vibrant with the decorations across homes and public pandals, especially in Maharashtra. The streets arise with processions, prayers, and kirtans while devotees offer sweets and perform other rituals to spread joy and excitement in honor of the festival.
Earlier on Wednesday, US ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, visited Mumbai's Shree Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Sanstha, where he offered prayers to Lord Ganesha.
This, Garcetti said, in his message: "As a mayor and now an ambassador, Ganesha stays with me in the office and home to inspire. Ganesha has acquired great importance in many communities in America as a remover of obstacles and a bringer of prosperity.".
The Shree Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Sanstha, located at Keshavji Naik Chawl in the Girgaum area of Mumbai, has been playing a very important role in the popularity of Ganesh festival since 1901. It was from this location that Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak transformed the festival into a public celebration.
