Parliament Passes Two Jammu & Kashmir Bills, Prompting Opposition Walkout

The bills secured approval in the Rajya Sabha via a voice vote following the departure of the Opposition from the Upper House. Having been previously approved by the Lok Sabha on December 6, both bills progressed in the legislative process.

On Monday, Parliament granted its approval to the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, as the Rajya Sabha endorsed the measures on the same day.

Remarkably, the parliamentary decision coincided with the Supreme Court's Constitution bench affirmation of the annulment of Article 370 of the Constitution. The apex court delivered its judgment on a series of petitions challenging the government's action, reaffirming the legality of the move.
