Counting begins for Bengal panchayat polls amid violence

Of the 73,887 seats, 928 are zilla parishad level, 9.730 panchayat samiti and 63,229 gram panchayat. The ruling Trinamool Congress has already started a lap ahead in the counting process by bagging uncontested victories in 8,941 seats. Of the 8,941 seats,16 are zilla parishad level, 981 panchayat samiti and 7,944 gram panchayat.
125-ft tall statue of Lachit Barphukan to be installed in Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday took stock of the physical progress of the statue of Borphukan. He held a meeting with the engineers of the construction agency and asked them to complete the construction by the end of 2024. Since the entire complex area has been demarcated, Sarma asked the Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat Pulak Mahanta to plant saplings around the boundary walls. 
Trinamool announces 6 candidates for RS polls, three re-nominated

For the numerical strengths of Trinamool and BJP in the state Assembly for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls, victory of six Trinamool candidates and one BJP candidate is assured. So, unless Trinamool fields any candidate for the seventh seat it can be said for certain that there will be no polling on July 24.

Bengal panchayat polls: Re-polling on Monday in just 697 booths

According to the fresh notification issued by State Election Commission, out of the 697 polling booths where re-polling will be conducted, the maximum will be from Murshidabad district at 175, followed by Malda at 110. Nadia district comes in the third position with 89 booths going for re-polling on Monday.
