Opposition Alliance's Ramlila Maidan Rally Approved by ECI and Delhi Police

Set to take place on March 31, the rally is themed ‘Tanasahi Hatao, Loktantra Bachao’ (eradicate dictatorship, uphold democracy).

The Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Delhi Police have granted approval for the INDIA bloc’s forthcoming rally at the historic Ramlila Maidan in the heart of the nation's capital. The rally aims to articulate the opposition alliance’s discontent over the detention of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the excise policy case.

Set to take place on March 31, the rally is themed ‘Tanasahi Hatao, Loktantra Bachao’ (eradicate dictatorship, uphold democracy).

The protest rally is anticipated to witness the presence of senior leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, and Uddhav Thackeray.

Among the array of prominent leaders slated to grace the Ramlila Maidan on Sunday are Tiruchi Shiva (DMK), Derek O’Brien (TMC), Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), D. Raja (CPI), Farooq Abdullah (NC), Dipankar Bhattacharya (CPI-ML), Champai Soren (JMM), Kalpana Soren (JMM), and Aditya Thackeray (Shiv Sena-UBT), among others.

While confirmation from leaders like Mehbooba Mufti is awaited, the Delhi Police have sanctioned a gathering of up to 20,000 individuals for the event.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) kicked off a campaign on Friday, circulating invitation letters to the public to ensure widespread participation in the rally. Gopal Rai, senior AAP leader and the party’s Delhi Convenor, engaged directly with the residents of Regarpura and Karol Bagh, urging them to join the event.

In the meantime, the INDIA bloc’s planned protest outside the BJP headquarters on Friday was called off, with opposition leaders expressing their focus on the upcoming rally at the Ramlila Maidan on Sunday.
