On Final Day of Campaign, Kejriwal Claims Conspiracy to Manipulate EVMs

Calling upon AAP supporters to vote in large numbers, Kejriwal said in a video, "Every single party supporter should step out and vote on February 5."

Hours before the end of the election campaign on Monday, AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged a conspiracy to manipulate EVMs in the February 5 Assembly election, claiming that rivals were planning to erase about 10 percent of his party's votes.

Calling upon AAP supporters to vote in large numbers, Kejriwal said in a video, "Every single party supporter should step out and vote on February 5."

Kejriwal also announced the launch of a website on which the AAP would upload six key pieces of information about each polling booth to ensure that the EVMs are not tampered with after voting.

"We have become wiser after our experience in the Haryana and Maharashtra elections," he said.

To counter attempts at wrongdoing on counting day, the six pieces of information to be uploaded on the AAP website would include the name of the polling booth, the name of the booth presiding officer, the ID number of the control unit, the last count of votes cast at the booth till night, the percentage of battery charge in the last EVM machine used at the booth, and the name of the polling agent.

He added that the only way to defeat the design of EVM manipulation was to increase the party's voter turnout by 15 percent so that even if they try to erase 10 percent of our votes, we may still win by 5 percent.

Earlier on Sunday, the Congress raised questions over the alleged use of foul play in the February 5 Delhi Assembly election and formed an eight-member Empowered Action Group of Leaders and Experts (EAGLE) to oversee "the conduct of free and fair elections by the Election Commission of India."

Kejriwal's accusation of possible EVM tampering is the latest in a series of accusations leveled against the Election Commission of India.

Apart from accusing the EC of not stopping alleged election code violations by rival candidates, the AAP National Convenor has also accused Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar of being biased in favor of the BJP, claiming that he was seeking a post-retirement posting after February 28.

In a video posted earlier, Kejriwal again requested voters benefiting from the arrangement for voting at home to come forward and assert their vote by marking their little finger with ink, stating that no one needed to touch anyone's knocker.
