Narendra Modi strongly rejected the opposition's claims about rising unemployment as baseless, citing the massive strides taken in creating jobs during the last ten years. In an exclusive conversation with Sanjay Pugalia, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of AMG Media Network, PM Narendra Modi has thrown light on the strong employment landscape of the country, aided by a dynamic pool of youth talent that is driving the creators' economy on one hand and the thriving startup ecosystem on the other.
Referring to data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), PM Modi asserted that unemployment rates have plummeted by half, with a staggering six crore new jobs materializing within the span of six years. Citing figures from the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), he noted the registration of 6-7 lakh fresh employment opportunities in the preceding six years.
"The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) data shows that unemployment has halved. More than 6 crore new jobs have been created in the six years. According to the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), 6-7 lakh new jobs have been registered in the last 6 years," he said.
How the piece of evidence was supported: Insights by the SKOCH Group, a premier think tank addressing socio-economic concerns, further corroborated the narrative of creating five crore jobs during the preceding decade.
PM Modi pointed out that startups have played a key role, divulging that more than 1.25 lakh ventures have come into being which have absorbed scores of young aspirants into the workforce. Additionally, he highlighted the emergence of more than 100 unicorns, collectively valued at over Rs 8 lakh crore, as testament to India's entrepreneurial vigor.
"More than 1.25 lakh startups have been created which have given jobs to thousands of youth. There are more than 100 unicorns worth over Rs 8 lakh crore in the country,” PM Modi told NDTV (NS:NDTV).
Addressing burgeoning sectors such as gaming and the creators' economy, PM Modi lauded their role in providing employment opportunities, particularly to individuals hailing from smaller towns and cities. He also pointed to the renewable energy sector as a significant source of "green jobs" and highlighted the booming aviation industry as a catalyst for job creation.
"Green jobs are being generated in the renewable energy sector. Aviation sector is booming, creating thousands of new jobs," PM Modi said.
