NCW Reveals Coercion in Karnataka Sex Scandal: False Complaints Allegedly Pressured by Men Posing as Police

According to a statement by the NCW, "A female complainant approached the Commission to register a complaint against three individuals posing as Karnataka Police officers and pressuring her to make a false complaint in this matter."

In a surprising turn of events concerning the sex video scandal implicating Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent JD-S MP who has been renominated from Hassan in Karnataka, the National Commission for Women (NCW) revealed on Thursday that one of the female complainants involved in the case has alleged coercion by a group of individuals to file a false complaint under threat of harassment.

According to a statement by the NCW, "A female complainant approached the Commission to register a complaint against three individuals posing as Karnataka Police officers and pressuring her to make a false complaint in this matter."

"The woman asserted receiving threatening calls from various unidentified numbers, compelling her to file a complaint.It has come to light that this complainant was forced by some people to file a complaint out of threat of possible harassment and false implications," the statement further said.

The complainant has demanded protection for her family, seeing the seriousness of the situation, with the NCW asking the DGP of Karnataka, Alok Mohan, to provide security to the woman.

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and son of JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, who himself has been detained for his alleged involvement in the abduction related to the sex scandal concerning his son, is at the center of this controversy.

The NCW further said, "In another development, it has been observed that the 700 women who filed online complaints are linked to a social activist group and do not have direct connections with the principal complainant in the case."

The NCW strongly denounces any act of violence or sexual abuse against women and has strongly acted upon the recent developments in the Prajwal Revanna case.

Taking cognizance of the distressing reports in the media, the NCW initiated suo motu action, affirming its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of women.

"A letter was expeditiously sent to the Director General of Police (DGP), urging immediate action and accountability within a strict timeline of three days. The action taken report submitted in time by the concerned authorities brought to light some following important findings," the statement highlighted.

Further, NCW said that an SIT has been constituted to investigate the matter, and with commendable representation of lady officers to undertake investigations, the cases are being handled with sensitivity and empathy.

While two cases have been registered—two cases of sexual abuse complaints by the victims themselves and another complaint of abduction by a relative of one victim—the NCW clarified that no victim had approached them directly to raise a complaint.

The NCW reiterated its commitment to the investigation of concerns by fully engaging with the Karnataka Police authorities on the matter, emphasizing evidence-based inquiry over premature judgments and commitment to justice and protection of women.
