Interestingly, the Constitution was passed by the Constituent Assembly in the Central Hall of Parliament on November 26, 1949 and came into effect on January 26, 1950. The day was actually observed as Law Day until Modi government decided to rename it as Samvidhaan Diwas or Constitution Day in 2015.

The year-long celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the day of adoption of the Constitution had started on Tuesday morning with an address by President Droupadi Murmu to a joint sitting of Parliamentarians. The purpose of this celebration is to instil the values of the Constitution in citizens and also to give importance to monumental work done by the Constituent Assembly.
