In a major overhaul of the organization, BSP supremo Mayawati on Sunday took away all party posts from her nephew Akash Anand, in effect ruling out him as her political successor.
BSP national president made it clear in so many words that she would not have anyone appointed as her successor during her lifetime.
This reorganization followed an important party session, during which the decision was taken that Akash Anand's father and BSP general secretary Anand Kumar, and Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Gautam, would assume the position of national coordinators of the party.
Mayawati emphasized that the development of the Bahujan community is imperative not only for the growth of Uttar Pradesh but for the nation as a whole.
She also said that Anand Kumar, the party's vice president at present, will look after party matters, including income tax and legal affairs, when she is not around but with her consent.
Congratulating Anand Kumar on his leadership abilities, Mayawati lauded his commitment, asserting that he had never disappointed her and had ever remained committed to the party cause.
"Besides overseeing all official activities, he also has good relations with the party activists and the general public, constantly providing me with useful advice," she added, showing appreciation.
Significantly, Akash Anand's ouster as national coordinator is attributed to the purported 'negative influence' of his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth. Siddharth was also earlier expelled from the BSP for allegedly promoting factionalism in the party, which was perceived as an effort to undermine its organization and strength.
This is the second time Akash Anand has been divested of his party duties. The first time was in May 2024, a little before the Lok Sabha elections. But he was restored two months later, after the elections had finished.
Mayawati also made it crystal clear again, saying categorically that she would not name a successor to head the party during her life.
