The Lok Sabha has further escalated its disciplinary actions by suspending two more MPs, C. Thomas and A.M. Arif, for the remainder of the ongoing Winter Session. This latest move brings the total count of suspended MPs to 143 within a week.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi initiated the motion for the suspension of these two MPs, citing their serious misconduct. The motion highlighted their disregard for House rules by entering with placards, occupying the Well, and disregarding the Chair's instructions. Srirang Appa Barne, presiding over the session, passed the resolution through a voice vote.
This decision follows a string of suspensions in the Lok Sabha, with 49 MPs suspended on Tuesday, 33 Lok Sabha MPs and 45 Rajya Sabha MPs suspended on Monday, and a total of 14 MPs suspended on December 14.
These actions come amid demands from opposition MPs for a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the security breach incident on December 13 when individuals jumped from the visitor's gallery during the zero-hour session. The Delhi Police have arrested six individuals in connection with this incident as part of their ongoing investigation.
