Lok Sabha Expels Mahua Moitra Over Allegations of 'Unethical Conduct' in Exchange for Parliamentary Queries

Prior to the announcement of Moitra's expulsion, the Speaker emphasized the imperative for each member to personally formulate their own questions.

In a recent development, the Lok Sabha took a decisive step on Friday, ousting Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra from her position as a Member of Parliament due to what was deemed 'unethical conduct' related to the 'cash for Parliament Questions' issue.

Prior to the announcement of Moitra's expulsion, the Speaker emphasized the imperative for each member to personally formulate their own questions. Firmly stating, "No one can pose a question on behalf of another MP. I am affirming this on record. As the Speaker, it is my duty to uphold the integrity of this esteemed House."

Moitra's dismissal ensued as a result of the Ethics Committee's recommendations, which were wholeheartedly accepted through a voice vote.

Conversely, the Opposition members chose to stage a walkout from the Lok Sabha in response to the House's decision to expel TMC MP Mahua Moitra for her perceived 'unethical conduct'.
