Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Saturday criticized the Bihar government of Nitish Kumar, lamenting that he regretted giving support to the state government, which he blamed for its inability to ensure law and order in the state.
Paswan, leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which is a BJP ally in the NDA, made the comments as he addressed the press in Patna before proceeding to Gayaji, where he is scheduled to address a rally.
"I have heard allegations that the recent surge of violent crimes is connected with the assembly polls due soon and there are efforts to tarnish this government. However, it is the job of the administration to maintain the law and order situation in control. I regret defending a government which is faltering on this front," the Hajipur MP said.
Describing a bleak scenario of the existing conditions, he went on, "The state situation has turned frightening. The administrative failure is attributed to both rank incompetence and connivance with criminals."
Pointing towards the increasing concern, Paswan claimed that murder, kidnapping, dacoity, and rape cases were being reported virtually every day. "The concerned authorities have woefully failed to stop the worsening law and order situation in the state. Law and order have broken down. The situation is virtually beyond control. It should be curbed immediately," he stated.
Paswan's biting criticism will probably lend strength to the opposition's attack on the ruling coalition. The opposition, which is led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has been targeting the Nitish Kumar government continuously, claiming that there is a spurt in crime in Bihar over the past few months.
The timing of Paswan's comments is also important, with the state in the process of preparing for assembly polls later this year.
