Kejriwal's Non-Response to Summonses Seen as Invitation for Arrest: Himanta

During a press briefing at the state BJP headquarters following a meeting on poll preparedness, Sarma pointed out that had Kejriwal complied with the initial summonses, his arrest might have been avoided. He emphasized, "If the ED serves someone nine summonses and that person doesn't show up, it is evident that he is inviting his arrest. The ED didn't arrest Kejriwal, he invited the agency to arrest him."

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, recently commented on the situation surrounding Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, suggesting that Kejriwal's repeated failure to respond to summonses from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) may have been a deliberate move inviting his own arrest. Sarma highlighted that ignoring nine summonses from the ED could be seen as a clear indication of inviting arrest intentionally.

Sarma further drew comparisons with other politicians like Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, who promptly appeared before the ED upon receiving summonses, implying that Kejriwal's actions differed significantly from this standard practice.

Responding to queries regarding Kejriwal's refusal to adhere to the summonses, Sarma speculated about potential political motives behind such actions, hinting at a strategy to gain public sympathy.

The ED eventually arrested Kejriwal on Friday, shortly after the Delhi High Court declined to provide him protection from coercive action by the federal anti-money laundering agency.
