Kejriwal's Directive to Atishi from Custody: Addressing Delhi's Water and Sewage Challenges

The directive focused on the water supply of the national capital and was communicated by the Chief Minister via a memorandum to Delhi Minister Atishi, responsible for the relevant portfolio.

Amidst debates concerning his capacity to fulfill duties as the Chief Minister of Delhi while under the custody of the Enforcement Directorate, Arvind Kejriwal has issued his first directive from confinement.

The directive focused on the water supply of the national capital and was communicated by the Chief Minister via a memorandum to Delhi Minister Atishi, responsible for the relevant portfolio.

"I've been made aware of significant issues with water and sewage in certain areas of Delhi. This concerns me deeply. Given my current incarceration, I don't want people to suffer any inconvenience due to this. The approaching summers heighten the urgency," expressed CM Kejriwal in his Hindi letter.

"In areas facing water shortages, ensure an adequate number of tankers are arranged. Direct the Chief Secretary and other officials to take necessary actions to prevent any trouble for the public. Prompt and effective resolution of people's problems must be ensured. If required, seek cooperation from the Lieutenant Governor. They should also support your endeavors," he added.

CM Kejriwal, remanded to ED custody until March 28 by a Delhi court on Friday, faces allegations of direct involvement in formulating an excise policy to favor specific individuals. The probe agency also accuses him of soliciting kickbacks from liquor businessmen for favors.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has vehemently denied the allegations, attributing them to the BJP-led Central government's political agenda in manipulating investigative agencies.

According to the ED, Kejriwal is the main conspirator in the scrapped excise policy case, colluding with AAP ministers, leaders, and others. The policy, allegedly tailored to benefit the 'South Group', was drafted with the involvement of Vijay Nair, Manish Sisodia, and representatives of the said group.

"Consequently, not only the AAP but Arvind Kejriwal himself is considered guilty of offenses punishable under Section 4 of PMLA and is liable to prosecution and punishment as per Section 70 of PMLA," stated the agency.

Kejriwal's legal team sought an expedited hearing in the High Court, possibly on Sunday, but their request was denied by the court.
