Delhi chief minister and National Convenor, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal vacated his official residence on Friday and moved to a government residence on Ferozeshah Road in Lutyens' Delhi.
A formal prayer ceremony before Kejriwal and his family shifted to the new house was held at the government residence on Ferozeshah Road. This residence is close to the head office of the Aam Aadmi Party and had been allotted to Ashok Mittal, AAP's Rajya Sabha member from Punjab.
A government bungalow in Civil Lines, near the Delhi Assembly, was allotted to Kejriwal during his tenure as Chief Minister. AAP leaders said Kejriwal vacated the residence of the Chief Minister on Friday along with all members of his family and possessions and moved to the new dwelling place.
Kejriwal's new accommodation is also close to his constituency in New Delhi. For the moment, he will reside in this government house, which is usually reserved for Members of Parliament till the Delhi Assembly elections are over.
Kejriwal was amongst the key accused in the Delhi Liquor Policy case for which he had been sent to jail. After getting released from jail, Kejriwal resigned from his position, declaring that he could not further serve with such allegations against his name. He announced that he was going to the people's court and that is where the public will decide whether he is honest or corrupt.
Immediately after tendering his resignation, Kejriwal had announced to shift out of the official residence. Subsequently, search for a new house began for Arvind Kejriwal. Many leaders, Councillors, MLAs, MPs, AAP members, and even public people presented their homes to the erstwhile Chief Minister.
The search for residence for Kejriwal terminated as AAP MP Ashok Mittal offered his government-allotted residence to him.
