Senior Janata Dal (United) leader K.C. Tyagi targeted Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday for his recent utterances against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, warning that such "provocative" remarks could harm Kharge's reputation.
Speaking at a poll rally at Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, Kharge, who briefly faltered due to uneasiness while speaking to the gathering, regained his composure and remarked on his resolve to witness the ousting of PM Modi.
"We shall fight to regain the statehood. I am 83 years old. I'm not going to die soon. I will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi out of office," declared Kharge while speaking to the gathering.
To this, K.C. Tyagi branded Kharge's words as "controversial, full of hatred, and provocative," highlighting that as a person holding such a big position, Kharge should not utter such words against the Prime Minister.
While acknowledging his right to oppose PM Modi and BJP policies, Tyagi sought dignity in political talk: "And uttering words like this is sullying his own reputation," Tyagi said, adding, "PM Modi has prayed for his long life despite Kharge's scathing attacks".
Tyagi also responded to the Kharge recent social media post on platform X wherein he accused the BJP of resisting the caste census and urged the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to prioritize the issue.
The JD-U leader used the occasion to highlight the fact that it was during the rule of the Congress party that the caste census had historically been ignored. "For the past 50 years, the leaders from the Samajwadi movement-Karpuri Thakur and Nitish Kumar among them-have been demanding a caste census, but no government backed those demands," Tyagi said.
He also showered praise on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar saying, "After all, Nitish Kumar is the first leader in the country who has successfully conducted a caste census in Bihar."
