Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress chief D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday said that he will accept the court's verdict as "God's will" in the disproportionate assets case.
The High Court is likely to pronounce judgment on Thursday in the case.
Whatever the verdict may be, I will accept it as God's will in the case of disproportionate assets, Shivakumar told media persons near Hebbanahalli in Hassan district after inspecting the Yettinahole project work.
He said this when asked about the case in which CBI has filed a petition in the HC for seeking permission to investigate a case relating to disproportionate assets: "I have faith in God and in the judiciary."
While doing so, the CBI has also challenged the Congress government's decision to withdraw the consent accorded to it to investigate the disproportionate case against Shivakumar by the Yediyurappa-headed BJP government on September 25, 2019. BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal had also filed a petition to this effect.
Division Bench led by Justice Somashekar reserved the matter for an order. The matter is listed for today, and the court is likely to pronounce the order this evening.
To a question on the complaint filed against CM Siddaramaiah's wife, Shivakumar said, "I don't know why everybody is targeting CM Siddaramaiah. Nothing will happen to him. BJP itself gave land as compensation for the land they lost. CM has not interfered in anything or signed documents.
When asked to comment on the allegations Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy had made with regard to denotification of land, he shot back, "I will not respond to the copy, only to the original."
Yettinahole Lift Irrigation Project Speaking on the Yettinahole Lift Irrigation Project, Shivakumar said, "A trial run of the Yettinahole Lift Irrigation Project was conducted on Wednesday evening. This project will help 7.5 million people across seven districts, including parts of Tumakuru, Chikkamagaluru, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, and Ramanagara.
Presently, 550 cusecs of water is lifted. In future, water six times of this quantity will be lifted. The water being lifted now is supplied to the Vanivilas (Marikanive) Reservoir. By the end of monsoon, we have to lift a certain quantity of water. This project stands as a testimony to show that Congress government fulfills the promises," he said.
"There is some problem in land acquisition of the forest department, which shall be sorted out as soon as possible. Alternative land has already been provided to the forest department in many places," he added.
"This is one of the ambitious projects of our government. All the MLAs and representatives from the concerned districts will be invited for the inauguration. There is going to be a grand inaugural event; thousands will be invited to see the beginning. The program will be so arranged without everybody congregating at one spot that it launches the project at various important locations. The function will be relayed live. There were people criticising this project in large numbers; today the criticism has died down and only the work remains. He announced, "All departments, as well as all parties that supported the project, will be invited.
"From the labourers digging the soil to the engineers, everybody has done an excellent job. The water navigates through a tunnel that is about one and half kilometres long. Farmers have cooperated in giving up their land. We must thank everybody. The date of inauguration will be finalised after discussing it with the Chief Minister," he said.
Since I inspected the work on Wednesday evening in the dark, I couldn't see everything properly. Therefore, I stayed back to inspect it again. I also provided some guidance to the officials. We discussed about organizing the inauguration and where it should take place," he said.
