Neha, aged 23 and the daughter of Congress councillor Niranjan Hiremath, was brutally stabbed to death on the premises of BVB College in Hubballi. The perpetrator, Fayaz Khondunaik, was later apprehended by the police after fleeing the scene.

Vijayendra drew attention to a similar incident in 2020 when the residence of Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy was targeted. Despite being in power at the time, the Congress government failed to adequately support its own MLA, highlighting what Vijayendra described as a recurring pattern within the party's culture.

While calling for a swift and impartial investigation into Neha's murder, Vijayendra criticized the state government's decision to assign the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) instead of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He expressed concern over the sluggish pace of the probe and urged authorities to expedite the process.

Emphasizing the importance of justice for Neha's family, Vijayendra emphasized that the issue should not be politicized. He stressed that irrespective of political affiliations, every murder must be met with stringent punishment for the perpetrators. Urging the state government to demonstrate seriousness in handling the case, Vijayendra reiterated the demand for the CBI to take over the investigation.
