JD(U) Leader Rajiv Ranjan Accuses Congress of Undermining Constitution in Lok Sabha Debate

He cited the irony of opposition members carrying copies of the Constitution while, according to Singh, it is the Congress that has tarnished its sanctity. 

Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan, alias Lalan Singh, launched a blistering attack in the Lok Sabha on opposition ranks, with pointed charges against the Congress and the Gandhi family for alleged double-speak over the Constitution. Singh, a JD(U) leader in the ruling NDA coalition, said during the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address, “I declare the Congress party as anti-Constitution." The point was really pressed that history would recall the Gandhi family for the evil effects on India's constitutional integrity.

“They do not have any right to discuss the Constitution and also hold it in their hands… You people have nothing to do with the Constitution,” Singh said. declared Singh. His attacks were directed at Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition, as Singhaccused him of misguiding the people through campaign-style rhetoric that has the aim of undermining constitutional institutions.

He warned other parties, like SP and DMK, against entering into alliance with Congress because of its history of failures. Singh stated that the recent electoral results showed that public has rejected opposition's narrative vis-a-vis with that of the ruling party. On question over electoral processes and EVMs, he said that recently, TMC defeated BJP in West Bengal and the Congress in Himachal Pradesh, which proved their credibility.

Singh remarked that the real threat to the Constitution in the country is from Congress party and not from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He pointed out that not only has Modi-ji got a mandate for the second consecutive term; even in the present elections, he got a mandate for the third consecutive term. This happened because people again started believing in Modi's campaign against corruption and in his pro-farmer policies and policies aimed at helping economically backward people. Singh corroborated that Modi envisions making India an economically developed country, thus reflecting upon the endeavors being made by the present government to strengthen agriculture and boost economic growth.

In the same session, Shiv Sena's Arvind Sawant was seen requesting the President to intervene against perceived injustices and condemned Prime Minister Modi's choice of words during electoral campaigns. Sawant wanted people to get beyond grievance mongering of the past and look at how issues are being addressed by the NDA now.

Amol Kolhe from NCP, Shirur constituency, Maharashtra questioned the fifth position that India has achieved in world economy while having increasing debts and facing a problem of hunger. He demanded revising GST over agri implements down and slammed government's onion export policy as biased towards Pakistan onion growers. He called for wildlife management strategies that would curtail human–leopard conflicts in his constituency and proposed the extension of reservations for Marathas without compromising reservations for OBCs.
