Chirag Paswan Rebukes Mamata Banerjee’s 'If You Burn...' Threat

Ms Banerjee, who has been on the back foot following a country-wide furore over the heinous rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, recently said at a function, "Modi babu, you are trying to create unrest in Bengal through your people. But remember, if you burn Bengal, Assam, Northeast, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi will burn too."

Union Minister Chirag Paswan assailed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her incendiary remarks where she had warned that riots would spill over to other states if there were attempts to destabilize Bengal.

Addressing the media in Patna, Chirag Paswan hit back: "A Chief Minister who has failed in handling her own state is now passing the buck and is trying to say that violence will spread to other states too. She is hinting that if Bengal burns, then other states will also burn. How shameful a statement this is. What kind of mentality is this? Does this become the dignity which one expects from a Chief Minister?

The chief of LJP-Ram Vilas-pressed Banerjee to focus on bringing improvement in her state.

"I appeal to Mamata Banerjee, sort out the problems in your state and try to restore the rule of law. It is her duty to ensure peace," Paswan said during an interaction with the media. He is also the Union Minister of Food Processing Industries.

Paswan continued the attack on the way the Trinamool Congress chief handled the R.G. Kar incident, termed it as the failure of her administration.
"Even after such a grave incident occurred at a state-run medical college, hooligans were able to enter and destroy evidence. This is indicative of the governance issues in West Bengal," Paswan said.

He further asked how free access to the hospital premises was provided to the accused in the RG Kar case with a number of cases of domestic violence against him.
"How did he get this access? Who is responsible for this? Instead of blame-game, the Chief Minister should work towards improving the law and order situation in West Bengal," Paswan said in conclusion.
