In response to the ongoing online sale of tickets for the Sunburn music festival on New Year's Eve, Cyberabad Police clarified on Monday that no permission has been granted for the event. Despite the clarification from the Police Commissioner, Avinash Mohanty, stating that organizers applied for permission but were denied, tickets for the event continued to be available for purchase on the BookMyShow portal.
The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, directed the Cyberabad Police Commissioner to investigate the alleged sale of tickets for the Sunburn music festival. The Commissioner emphasized that permission had not been granted for the event, distinguishing it from Sunburn events held in other cities. The festival was reportedly planned near HITEC City, the information technology hub in Madhapur.
During a conference with district collectors and SPs, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed concern about the drug menace and instructed officials to curb drug consumption at New Year's Eve events. He specifically mentioned the cancellation of Sunburn events in states like Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. The Chief Minister urged officials not to treat such events as revenue earners and emphasized the need to prevent the spread of destructive culture.
In his efforts to make Telangana drug-free, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to enforce age restrictions at events, prohibiting individuals below 18 years from attending and those below 21 years from being served liquor. The Chief Minister underscored the responsibility of police officials in curbing the drug menace and preventing the state from facing a situation similar to Punjab's collapse due to drug-related issues.
