Hemant Soren, the Executive President of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was on Thursday sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand during a ceremony organized at the Raj Bhavan. Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Hemant Soren in the presence of outgoing Chief Minister Champai Soren, Congress's Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir, and the big leaders of the INLD bloc in the Jharkhand unit.
The other Cabinet ministers are expected to be sworn in on Sunday.
Earlier in the year, Hemant Soren was entangled in legal hassles as he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on the 31st of January in cases linked to money-laundering pertaining to a supposedly dubious land deal. He was later bailed out on 28th June and today with this swearing-in ceremony took over the reigns as Chief Minister for the third time following his previous holding of the post on 29th December 2019 and 13th July 2013.
Hemant with Champai Soren went to Raj Bhavan to tender his resignation before taking over last week. Champai Soren became the Chief Minister for a very brief period starting from February 2 after laying the claim for formation of government.
Before taking charge as the Chief Minister, Hemant Soren referred to a chariot rider's commitment to fight for justice in adverse situation in a touching tweet.
Days later, on Wednesday, he resigned the Raj Bhavan, just five months after he took charge. Following this, Hemant Soren handed over the Letter of Support to the Governor, staking his claim for heading the government.
