Haryana CM Saini Retains Home, Finance, Excise, and Taxation Portfolios

In the new Haryana ministry, Major Nayab Singh Saini retained all important portfolios such as Home, Finance, Excise and Taxation to himself. He also retained Town & Country Planning and Urban Estates, Information, Public Relations, Language and Culture, Administration of Justice, General Administration, Criminal Investigation (C.I.D), Personnel & Training, and Law and Legislative with himself. Seven-time legislator and the seniormost legislator in the Cabinet, Anil Vij, has been given portfolios of Energy, Transport and Labour. He was the Home and Health & Family Welfare Minister under former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Shruti Choudhry, for example, is the debutante woman legislator who has been allotted Women and Child Development and Irrigation and Water Resources. The other debutante minister is Arti Singh Rao, who got Health and Medical Education and Research and Ayush. Rao Narbir Singh has been allotted Industries and Commerce, Environment, Forests, and Wildlife Departments, while Mahipal Dhanda has been given the responsibility of School and Higher Education Departments.

Vipul Goel Revenue and Disaster Management, Urban Local Bodies, and Civil Aviation Departments Minister; Arvind Sharma Jails, Cooperation; Shyam Singh Rana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department; Ranbir Gangwa Public Health Engineering Krishan Kumar Bedi Social Justice, Empowerment, and Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Departments.

Krishan Lal Panwar has been given Development and Panchayats, and Mines and Geology Departments. Minister of State (Independent Charge) Rajesh Nagar has been given Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, while Minister of State Gaurav Gautam (Independent Charge) has been handed over Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship and Sports Department. Saini reviewed development projects here on Sunday at a meeting with officials from the Urban Local Bodies and Development and Panchayats departments.

Instructing 'Samadhan shivirs' in municipal bodies from October 22, the Chief Minister has been prioritizing the welfare of the people. During these 'shivers,' all officers would be present in office from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to help the people with various problems. A decision was also taken to review development projects by personally meeting all the Commissioners of Municipal Corporations here in Chandigarh on October 24 at 9 a.m.

Chief Minister Saini took oath, along with his 13-member Cabinet on October 17 and vowed to tire-somely serve the 2.8 crore people of Haryana. Defying an anti-incumbency of 10 years, BJP has formed the government for a record third consecutive term after securing an absolute majority in the state. A low-profile non-Jat but Other Backward Classes (OBC) face, Saini, who is 54 years old, took oath as the Chief Minister for the second time with a galaxy of NDA leaders present, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Besides the President, the oath of office was also sworn-in by the Council of Ministers comprising 11 Cabinet Ministers and two Ministers of State with Independent Charge in a 45-minute ceremony in Panchkula near here.
