"Vinesh Phogat is a champion for us," Saini declared, adding that "the whole of India is proud of Vinesh's performance."

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that wrestler Vinesh Phogat, despite her disqualification from the gold medal match in the women's 50 kg category at the Paris Olympics due to a failed second weigh-in, will receive the same recognition, rewards, and facilities as a silver medalist.

"Vinesh Phogat is a champion for us," Saini declared, adding that "the whole of India is proud of Vinesh's performance."

Following the news of her disqualification, the Chief Minister expressed his support, stating, "The entire nation, including Haryana, stands with you. You have bravely faced numerous challenges. We have full confidence in our daughter that she will overcome all obstacles and continue to elevate India's pride."

Earlier on Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met with Vinesh Phogat's uncle, Mahavir Phogat, in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, and questioned the responsibility of her support staff in the unfortunate incident.

"Such errors occurring at such a high level are unacceptable. Coaches and physiotherapists are well-compensated. Were they on vacation?" Mann queried.

The Chief Minister was in Charkhi Dadri on Wednesday to address an Aam Aadmi Party public meeting ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections scheduled for October.

"We were informed that she exceeded the weight limit by 150 grams, leading to her disqualification. She will now aim for the 2028 Olympic Games," Mahavir Phogat stated.

"The whole nation was anticipating a gold medal. But her disqualification has saddened everyone. This happened according to the rules, and I'm uncertain about a second chance. She will now work even harder," he added, his eyes filled with tears.

At Vinesh's ancestral home, the celebrations turned somber within 24 hours after she made history as the first Indian woman to reach the final of an Olympic wrestling event, following her decisive 5-0 victory over Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the semifinal.
