Union minister Giriraj Singh and his district representative in Begusarai received WhatsApp calls from Pakistan-based numbers, and the caller threatened them with dire consequences on Friday.
Amrendra Kumar Amar, a representative of Union Minister Giriraj Singh said that they received a WhatsApp call from a Pakistan based number (+923276100973) on Friday at about 11:28 AM.
"The caller first thought that he was talking to Giriraj Singh and started threatening with dire consequences. After knowing that he was talking to me, the caller threatened me and the Union Minister, also," Amar said.
He added that he wrote a complaint letter to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police(SP) of Begusarai and requested them to register an FIR and conduct an inquiry into the matter.
Amar said that he had requested the authorities to make all efforts to trace the caller and examine any security threat.
"This decision has signaled seriousness about the matter as a call from a foreign number, especially from Pakistan, raises concern about possible security risk or harassment of public figures," Amar added.
Amar also said that he had already apprised Jay Krishna, the Personal Assistant of Union Minister Giriraj Singh, of the suspicious call.
"During the telephonic conversation, the caller allegedly told him about an arrest of one person," he said.
Giriraj Singh, the BJP MP from Begusarai, is a strident votary of issues pertaining to Hindutva and frequently chimes in on religious lines, which has created a niche for him as a hardcore Hindu leader in Bihar.
Heeding the political profile and active vocalism on sensitive subjects, such a happening is a serious thing as it may have the potential for security breaches or even intimidations. The call for intervention by the law enforcement authorities to have it investigated underlines the seriousness of the situation.
