Extension of Judicial Custody for BRS Leader K. Kavitha in Excise Policy Case until April 23rd

Previously, Kavitha had been in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which was extended for three days. However, as per the ED's request, stating that further custodial interrogation was unnecessary, the court decided to send her to judicial custody.

In connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam, K. Kavitha, an MLC from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has been sent to judicial custody until April 9th by a court on Tuesday.

Previously, Kavitha had been in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which was extended for three days. However, as per the ED's request, stating that further custodial interrogation was unnecessary, the court decided to send her to judicial custody.

Kavitha's counsel, Advocate Nitesh Rana, sought interim bail due to her son's exams. The court has scheduled a hearing for her bail application on April 1st.

Kavitha, who is the daughter of BRS President and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was arrested on March 15th after searches at her residence in Hyderabad. The ED alleges that she conspired with others and was actively involved in the payment of kickbacks amounting to Rs 100 crore.

The ED further alleges that Kavitha was involved in establishing the money laundering ecosystem through a proxy company, M/s Indo Spirits, which generated proceeds of crime worth Rs 192.8 crore.

During her custody, the ED confronted Kavitha with statements from various other persons and co-accused. The agency also mentioned the analysis of data extracted from her mobile phone.

According to the ED, Kavitha has not provided true and complete disclosure during the investigation and has been giving evasive replies.

Responding to allegations of flouting Supreme Court directives, the ED stated that it hadn't made any commitment to refrain from coercive action against Kavitha. The agency asserts that there is sufficient evidence and witness statements against her.

The ED also accused Kavitha of destroying evidence and stated its intention to summon her husband and house help for the extraction of digital data. Additionally, two other individuals who provided statements against her are to be summoned for confrontation.
