The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the timeline for Delhi's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, extending the house-to-house verification exercise and postponing the publication of both the draft and final electoral rolls.
In an order issued on Wednesday to Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the Commission said the revised schedule followed a request from the state's election machinery.
Under the updated programme, booth level officers (BLOs) will continue conducting house-to-house visits until August 8, instead of the earlier deadline of July 29. The exercise, which commenced on June 30, will run alongside the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations, a process also scheduled to conclude on August 8. The draft electoral roll will now be published on August 17.
The Commission has also extended the window for filing claims and objections to August 17-September 16. Electoral registration officers (EROs) will examine and dispose of the claims and objections until October 15, with the final electoral roll now scheduled for publication on October 19.
“More time has been given to all states where the process is going on. This will ensure that the process is completed properly without rushing the BLOs, while giving people more time to fill the forms,” an official from the CEO’s office said.
Alongside the revised schedule, the Delhi CEO's office released updated figures on the progress of the enumeration drive. As of 8 pm on July 15, enumeration forms had been distributed to 14,398,463 electors out of the capital's total electorate of 14,510,298, covering 99.23 per cent of registered voters.
Despite the near-complete distribution of forms, only 2,175,534 had been digitised by that time, representing approximately 14.99 per cent of the total electorate.
Outer North district recorded the highest digitisation rate at 29.57 per cent, followed by Southwest district with 21.80 per cent. Central North stood at 18.72 per cent, while North district reported 17.82 per cent. Old Delhi had the lowest digitisation rate at 9.09 per cent, followed by East at 9.21 per cent and Southeast at 9.47 per cent, according to the CEO's status report.
Election officials said the additional time would enable BLOs to complete visits to the remaining households and reduce the possibility of eligible voters being left out of the revised electoral roll.
“The revised schedule provides additional time for field verification and completion of the enumeration exercise. Booth level officers will continue house-to-house visits till August 8, after which the draft electoral roll will be published. Electors will then have the opportunity to file claims and objections before the final roll is published,” the official said.
The Special Intensive Revision exercise began in Delhi on June 30, with July 1, 2026, designated as the qualifying date. As part of the process, BLOs are visiting households to distribute pre-filled enumeration forms, verify voter details and collect updated information for preparing the revised electoral roll.
According to the CEO's office, the exercise is being carried out across all 70 Assembly constituencies and more than 13,000 polling stations in the national capital. The Commission has said the objective of the revision is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible names.
