Tamil Nadu minister and DMK leader, Udhayanidhi Stalin, clarified on Thursday that his party does not oppose the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya but objects to it being built after the demolition of a mosque. Udhayanidhi referred to the stance of the late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, who had emphasized that the DMK is not against any particular religion or faith. Speaking in Chennai, Udhayanidhi, who is also the DMK Youth Wing chief, expressed no issues with the construction of a temple at the site but voiced disagreement with the building of a temple following the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992.

He highlighted the party's official position, citing the statement made by DMK Treasurer T R Baalu, who emphasized the separation of spiritualism and politics. The consecration of the grand temple at Ramjanmabhoomi in Ayodhya is scheduled for January 22.

He revealed that the party had gathered approximately 85 lakh signatures, surpassing the target of 50 lakh, as part of its anti-NEET campaign. Subsequently, the collected signatures, received through both online and postal means, will be handed over to the President in New Delhi.
