Shivakumar said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is a close friend of his, has invited him for the Maha Kumbh Mela and he is going there with family.

The BJP has criticized his visit, raising past remarks of Congress leader and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, who questioned the importance of a holy dip in the Ganga to bring an end to poverty.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly Opposition leader R. Ashoka took a dig at Shivakumar saying on Tuesday, "As soon as D.K. Shivakumar takes a dip in the Ganga, will all his sins be washed away?

Mocking further, he said: As soon as KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar takes a holy dip at the Kumbh Mela, will poverty be eradicated in Karnataka? Won't Kharge Saheb (AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge) question this now?"

Shivakumar is known for strong religious beliefs and frequent temple visits. He has visited 'Shakti Peeths' in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh, as well as historic temples in North India.

The Maha Kumbh Mela participation of Siddaramaiah has now become political in nature as insiders claim that he is going there to seek blessings of God for the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.

BJP says that Siddaramaiah-Shivakumar power sharing agreement is approaching the transition stage and, thus, indicates a power tussle between two leaders within the Congress party to emerge as Chief Minister.
