Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, has turned down Arvind Kejriwal's appeal to appoint Raghav Chadha as the temporary leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha. Dhankhar affirmed that Sanjay Singh will remain the AAP leader in the Rajya Sabha, citing adherence to 'The Leaders and Chief Whips of Recognised Parties and Groups in Parliament (Facilities) Act. 1998' and its associated regulations. According to sources, the request made by Kejriwal does not align with the applicable legal framework, hence cannot be granted.
Earlier, Kejriwal had formally proposed Raghav Chadha's name as the interim party leader in the Rajya Sabha until any further modifications were deemed necessary. The communication emphasized compliance with the Rajya Sabha's rules and procedures for this alteration.
This request by Kejriwal emerges against the backdrop of the incumbent AAP leader in the Rajya Sabha, Sanjay Singh, being in judicial custody, thereby unable to participate in the parliamentary sessions.
