Delhi Court Extends Judicial Custody of Chanpreet Singh in Excise Policy Case

The ED, advocating for Singh's 14-day judicial custody, contends that he functioned as a cash handler for the Aam Aadmi Party during the Goa elections, allegedly receiving around Rs 45 crore in cash via hawala operators. These funds were purportedly disbursed to various stakeholders, including vendors, survey workers, and volunteers involved in the AAP campaign in Goa. Singh's arrest under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on April 13 marked a significant development in the ongoing investigation.

Following the latest developments in the excise policy case, a Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of Chanpreet Singh until April 23. Throughout the custodial interrogation, the ED asserts that Singh provided vague responses and withheld crucial information. The agency, while seeking judicial custody, emphasizes its ongoing efforts to uncover the trail of illicit funds and determine the extent of Singh's involvement in money laundering activities.

In its plea before the court, the federal probe agency highlights Singh's alleged non-cooperation during questioning and underscores the significance of his statements in the investigation. Singh was reportedly confronted with testimonies from witnesses and co-accused individuals, shedding light on his purported role in the illicit activities under scrutiny.
