Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended his heartfelt wishes to the nation on the occasion of the 75th Constitution Day, marking the adoption of the Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949.
It is also referred to as Samvidhan Divas, which marks the day when the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution, making it effective on January 26, 1950. In 2015, it was declared an official observance to honor the principles enshrined in the Constitution, that of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
On social media platform X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, "Happy Constitution Day to all citizens on this 75th Anniversary of Indian Constitution.
He also posted a video explaining that the Constitution is India's "guiding light"
In the video, he said: "Constitution is our guiding light. The Constitution is not just a compilation of Articles but a modern expression of India's unbroken civilisational tradition of thousands of years."
He emphasized the words starting with opening words "We the people," terming them as "a call, a promise, and a belief" illustrating India's roots in democracy.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings on the occasion, paying tribute to the architects of the Constitution, including Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
"Heartiest greetings on 'Constitution Day'. Today, India is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Constitution with great enthusiasm," Shah posted on X.
He acknowledged Prime Minister Modi's initiative to commemorate the day and stressed the Constitution's role in ensuring justice, equality, and national unity.Indian fashion trends
"The strength of democracy of a huge country like India is our Constitution, which gives the mantra of national unity and integrity by ensuring justice and equal rights to every person," he wrote.
"We believe that the Constitution is not just a book to be displayed on stage but it is the key to making the highest contribution to public life by internalising it with full devotion. Come! On this Constitution Day, let us pledge to build a strong, prosperous and self-reliant India," the home minister posted.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also accompanied the message by posting, "Heartiest greetings to all Indians on 'Constitution Day'. The Indian Constitution has laid down the base for the creation of a new India. Today our country is advancing with full determination to build a developed, strong, and self-respecting India."
He paid tributes to the visionaries behind the Constitution, including Dr Ambedkar, and described their contributions as the cornerstone of India's democratic framework.
The occasion is being celebrated across the country with leaders underlining the relevance of the Constitution as it continues to uphold the values of democracy and unity.
