Congress Unveils Candidates for Delhi's Lok Sabha Seats, Featuring Kanhaiya Kumar and Udit Raj

In adherence to the agreed-upon seat-sharing arrangement between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the former is slated to contest three out of the seven seats in Delhi, with AAP fielding candidates for the remaining four.

The Congress party made significant strides on Sunday by unveiling its candidates for three crucial Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi, as part of its strategic alliance with AAP. Notable among them are Kanhaiya Kumar, set to contest from North East Delhi, and Udit Raj, who will represent North West Delhi. Additionally, JP Agarwal emerged as the party's nominee for the Chandni Chowk seat.

Kanhaiya Kumar, a prominent figure known for his tenure as the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) president, gained nationwide attention in 2016 due to his arrest over alleged "anti-national" slogans raised on the university campus. Despite subsequent investigations revealing the involvement of outsiders in the incident, Kumar has since become a pivotal member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and currently heads the National Students Union of India (NSUI).

His electoral journey includes a bid for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai on a CPI ticket, albeit unsuccessful, losing to the BJP's Giriraj Singh. This time, Kumar is poised to challenge the BJP's incumbent two-time MP, Manoj Tiwari, in the North East Delhi constituency.

Meanwhile, JP Agarwal, a seasoned Congress leader with victories in the Chandni Chowk constituency during the elections of 1984, 1989, and 1996, makes a formidable return as the party's candidate for the same seat.

Completing the trio of Congress nominees is Udit Raj, a former MP from the North West Delhi-SC seat. Raj, who secured victory in 2014 under the BJP banner, switched allegiance to the Congress in 2019 after being denied a ticket by his former party.

As Delhi gears up for the electoral battle scheduled for May 25, with the counting of votes slated for June 4, these strategic nominations set the stage for an intense political showdown in the capital.
