The Congress party has criticized the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, with Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh taking a swipe at the government's proposals. In response to Sitharaman's mention of the four engines of development—agriculture, MSMEs, investments, and exports—Ramesh remarked that the Budget had been "completely derailed."
He pointed out that while the government emphasized these four engines of growth, the actual budget proposals failed to live up to expectations.
Ramesh also expressed concerns over the amendment to the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010, noting how the BJP under Arun Jaitley's leadership had previously frustrated this law, which international firms had wanted during Dr. Manmohan Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister.
He further claimed that the latest amendment was made under pressure from former U.S. President Donald Trump's demands.
The Congress response highlights the party's dissatisfaction with the direction of the Budget and its impact on India’s economy, as well as issues concerning foreign policy and regulatory changes.
