CM Yogi Calls Conversion Racket 'Anti-National', Vows Strict Action Against Mastermind

Wading into social media, CM Yogi said his administration has a zero-tolerance policy towards any threat to law and order.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday called for stringent and exemplary action against Jalaluddin, aka Chhangur Baba, who has been named the suspected kingpin of a huge religious conversion racket. The Chief Minister criticized the act as not only anti-social but also anti-national.

Wading into social media, CM Yogi said his administration has a zero-tolerance policy towards any threat to law and order. He clearly stated that the properties of Jalaluddin and other syndicate members of the conversion racket would be seized, and they would be dealt with as per the extent of the law.

"The state government is committed to keeping women safe and their dignity intact, particularly our sisters and daughters. Those who endanger peace, social harmony, or the safety of women will face tough consequences," Yogi Adityanath stated.

He continued to affirm, "They will be punished under the law as an example for society."
Details of the Racket
The revelation of a religious conversion racket, allegedly organized by Chhangur Baba and his gang — his wife also being reportedly part of it — has created a huge controversy throughout Uttar Pradesh. It is reported that the gang had allegedly targeted Hindu girls in their early teens, forcing them into Muslim conversions under false assurances.

Jalaluddin and his co-accused, Neetu alias Nasreen — both from Madhpur in Balrampur district — were picked up by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). A non-bailable warrant was out against Jalaluddin, and a ₹50,000 reward was announced for his arrest.

Alarmingly, officials have accused Jalaluddin of having a "conversion rate list," which outlined monetary rewards for religious conversions. FIRs filed across several districts indicate that he and his wife tricked more than 40 girls — mostly from Hindu and other non-Muslim families — into religious conversions. The girls were allegedly bribed with money and other inducements to forsake their own religion and adopt Islam.
