Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah firmly dismissed any notion of resigning from his position, asserting that he had not erred in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case.
In response to a media question about BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra's call for his resignation after Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot approved prosecution against him in the MUDA case, Siddaramaiah retorted: “Should I resign simply because Vijayendra demands it? Should his request dictate my actions? I would rather see Vijayendra resign from his role as state BJP President. Why should I step down just because he says so?”
Siddaramaiah maintained his innocence regarding the MUDA case and indicated that the issue would be revisited in court on Saturday. “Let's wait and see what unfolds. I have not committed any wrong. Tomorrow, our MLAs, MPs, and MLCs will meet with the Governor to discuss the ongoing cases against Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, as well as former BJP ministers Murugesh Nirani, Shashikala Jolle, and Janardhana Reddy, which have been stalled for a long time,” he stated in Huballi.
He emphasized that while investigations and pending charge sheets exist for the other cases, his situation lacks both investigation and a report. He pointed out that in Kumaraswamy’s case, the investigation agency is seeking the Governor’s approval to file a charge sheet after completing the probe. Siddaramaiah accused the BJP and JD-S of attempting to undermine his government through targeted attacks.
The Karnataka BJP has vowed to continue protests until Siddaramaiah resigns. In contrast, the Congress leadership has pledged its unwavering support for the Chief Minister, committing to stand by him through any developments.
Additionally, Siddaramaiah has filed a writ petition challenging the Governor’s decision to sanction his prosecution in the MUDA case. The Karnataka High Court has temporarily halted the Special Court's proceedings against him.
