Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Granted Z-category VIP Security by Centre

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has assigned the Central Reserve Police Force the responsibility of providing approximately 40-45 personnel for this purpose, according to the same sources.

In response to potential threats, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has been granted a Z-category VIP security cover with armed commandos by the Union government, as per official sources on Tuesday.

Following a threat perception report compiled by central security agencies, a robust security cover for Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kumar was strongly recommended. This development coincides with the ongoing preparations for the upcoming seven-phase general elections set to commence on April 19.

It has been noted that the armed commandos will be accompanying the CEC during his travels throughout the country, ensuring his safety and security.

Kumar, a retired IAS officer from the 1984 batch, assumed office as the 25th Chief Election Commissioner on May 15, 2022.
